A BRIEF INTRODUCTION ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION

The Prince George's County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association represents 38 volunteer fire and rescue corporations in Prince George's County, Maryland. staffing 46 stations providing dedicated and continuous fire, rescue and EMS service to more than 700,000 citizens bordering our nation's capitol.

The Prince George's County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association works closely with the Prince George's County Fire Department administration to continue an excellent working relationship between career and volunteer firefighters and emergency medical personnel.

Meetings are scheduled each month to update members on current legislation, and special events or programs on the local and state levels. The Association coordinates the interests of 38 independent volunteer fire and rescue companies, including the Laurel Rescue Squad and the Underwater Rescue and Recovery Team.

An ongoing blood drive is managed by the membership to help fire service members and thier families in a time of need.

Each year, various fire prevention activities are sponsered by the Fire Prevention Committee and member companies in an effort to heighten awareness of fire destruction and devastation.

On the educational front, each year tuition scholarships are awarded to students who are seeking degrees in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland as well as other scholarships available through the Association and the Maryland State Fireman's Association.

Other committees of the Association monitor legislation that impacts the fire and rescue service, raise funds, assist companies with LOSAP (the Maryland state volunteer fire service retirement program), and focus on other special topics as they occur.

Closely aligned with the Volunteer Chief's Council, we stress operational as well as organizational priorities. Recommendations to the County Fire Chief on operational fire/rescue activities are made to maintain a high quality volunteer firefighting and EMS system.

Untold hours are given by volunteer firefighters, rescue technicians, emergency service personnel, and auxiliaries to fellow citizens of Prince George's County. It is estimated that this volunteer work saves the County over $43 million annually in salary costs.

The Prince George's County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association, led by our President, serves as the focal point and voice of the volunteers.
