My name is Lauri Butler, Marketing Manager for Harley-Davidson of Washington, DC. We would like to invite you to our First Responders Appreciation Day here at the dealership.
Harley-Davidson of Washington, DC will have a day of appreciation for those who protect and care for us in our time of need. All first responders with ID will receive a dealership gift in recognition or all that you do along with special promotions running all weekend long. In addition, all active first responders will have the priority to sign up for Free Riding Academy New Rider Course.
Be the first to see our Custom Kings reveal bike. This a custom bike that we have built for an H-D national competition and we are so excited about it. It’s a totally wicked Sportster 883 that we have chopped and bobbed into our own little master piece.
We will have food, entertainment, workshops, door prizes and giveaways throughout the day for our everyday heroes. We have so many activities going on this day we have put it under the heading of ‘Open House’ but make no mistake…it’s about the first responders. The day will be all about you!!!
We look forward to you coming out to see us on February 27th. Please confirm your reservation using the link below or visit our website www.hdwash.com (calendar – scroll down to event and press RSVP).
Thank you for all you do!
I wanted to share an opportunity which is available at Frederick Community College, and might be beneficial to your career and volunteer folks.
This program has been designed specifically career and volunteer fire-rescue personnel in mind.
•Many classes will be held at the Frederick County Public Safety Training Facility. This helps avoid the congestion and parking challenges of the FCC campus
•Many classes will be offered using the “mirrored format”. This means the class you need to take will be offered on a schedule that is more compatible with your shift work schedule and with a day and evening class that is more compatible for volunteer personnel.
•Up to 15 semester hour credits can be received for MFRI certifications you have already completed through recruit school or MFRI volunteer training programs. This “head start” is 25% of the total credits needed to complete your Associates Degree.
•Credit hours from other college level courses you may have already completed or from an existing degree MAY be transferable toward this degree program.
•If you are considering a degree from a four year institution, this degree is structured so your FCC courses will transfer to other four year degree program, so a Bachelors Degree (or higher) can be completed.
•Fire and Rescue affiliation is required for program entry….something you already have.
•Tuition Assistance may be is available from your employer (Frederick County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association has a scholarship program that can be applied for to assist volunteer personnel; PGCVFRA likely has a similar program).
The link below will send you to the FCC website where you can get additional information about the program and registration.
I just wanted to say thank you to all who is responsible for this page. It means a great deal to me, my Grandfather was a member of Chillum Adelphi for 40 years and he loved every minute of it. I have great memories of being at the station with him when I was a little boy, sitting on the ladder truck and playing on the pumper. I know he would be very proud of this site just as I am! I miss you Granddaddy, every day!! James F. Dorsey, the best fireman I ever met! :)

I started with the department in 1968 and was selected to be hired by the PGFD in March 1971. Only one problem I was drafted in February 1971. Not complaining, but missed the dept very much. After the service I was a police officer in Virginia for many years. Upon returning to MD in 1990 I re joined District Heights VFD and again it was under Chief Thomas C. Stommel, he was chief in 1969 as well. I was also a member of St. Leonard VFD Calvert Co #7. When I left Maryland and moved the Wyoming, I joined the Carbon Co VFD and was also Chief of Encampment WY VFD for 5 years.
I cannot explain the rewards that being a volunteer firefighter brought me over my lifetime. I don't like to separate Volunteer and Paid as both are professional and serve their communities.
Thanks for the Time
